4 Tips For Maintaining Your Car's Auto Paint Job

Posted on: 9 August 2016

If you have recently had your car painted either because you were in an accident that caused major exterior body damage or you simply wanted to change the color of your vehicle, you will want to know what you can do to maintain that paint job. Repainting a vehicle isn't cheap, which is why it's important to know what steps you can take to keep it appearing at its best. Here are four tips to consider:

  1. Wash Every Week: Ideally, your vehicle should be washed every week. Unless you park in a garage, your car is constantly exposed to outdoor conditions, which includes bird droppings, rain, and other debris that can become stuck to the body of your vehicle. All of this causes wear and tear to the paint. If you do park in a garage, you need to consider how often you do drive your vehicle. If you drive daily, then washing once a week is still a good option because of how much debris it's exposed to while on the road.
  2. Wax: Many people overlook waxing their vehicle. This should be done at least twice per year. The benefit of waxing is that it creates a surface on your vehicle that dirt and grime cannot easily stick to. Not only does this keep your vehicle looking clean for a longer period of time, but it also ensures that your vehicle's paint is not going to easily become damaged since it will be highly protected by the wax covering.
  3. Keep Your Car Covered: Whenever you are able to, it's best to have your car covered while it's parked. The reason for this is because it prevents your car from being exposed to harsh weather conditions, such as rain, as well as bird droppings. You should park in the garage as often as you can and in covered parking lots. If you are unable to do this because you do not have a garage or an overhang for your vehicle, consider purchasing a car cover that you can use while you are parked for a long period of time. However, do not think that parking under a tree is adequate protection. In fact, this is even less so because of the leaves and other debris that fall from trees.
  4. Spot Clean: Whenever you do notice that some kind of debris is stuck to the vehicle, spot clean it off because it has a chance to dry and chip the paint. If you do spot clean the area and you notice that the paint has scratched, consider taking it back to the auto paint shop where they will most likely refinish the small area for you free of charge, especially if you had your vehicle painted by them recently.

When you consider these four tips, you can be sure that the auto paint on your vehicle stays in the best condition, which helps you maintain high value for your vehicle. For more information, contact companies like Space Age Auto Paint Store.
