If you have a convertible, then you likely want to keep it in good condition so that you can use it for as long as possible. This article will discuss 3 tips for keeping your convertible top in good repair.

Use A Convertible Top Cleaner On It Regularly

A convertible top is just like any other part of your car, and it needs to be cleaned regularly. This not only keeps is looking good, but it can also stop it from becoming damaged. There are generally two types of materials that convertible tops are made out of: one is vinyl and the other is fabric. Depending on what type of top you have, you are going to need to use the appropriate cleaners. Both vinyl and fabric are made for convertible tops, so you shouldn't have a problem getting what you need. You will want to spray the cleaner all over the convertible top and then use a soft sponge or cloth to completely clean the entire area. You will then want to rinse off the cleaner with water and completely dry the top before moving onto the next step.

Use A Vinyl Or Fabric Protectant

The last step of the cleaning process for your vinyl or fabric top is going to be to apply a protectant. Vinyl tops are prone to cracking, drying out, and fading in the sun, and fabric tops are known to also become faded and to lose their waterproof abilities overtime. To preserve both of these kinds of tops better, you can apply a protectant to them right after you have cleaned them. This protectant is going to be applied over the entire surface area of the convertible top using either a brush or sponge and will then be left to dry. One thing to keep in mind is that you are going to want to completely cover the rear window before doing this so that it doesn't get any of the protectant on it.

Use Special Cleaners On Your Rear Plastic Windows

The rear window on the back of a convertible car is made out of plastic instead of the regular glass. This is due to the fact that the window is going to be folded down when you open up your convertible top. However, this window needs to be fully functional when your top is up, and for this reason it needs to always remain clean. While your first thought may be to use regular window cleaner on this window, this is not a good idea. This window is made out of plastic rather than glass, so a specialised plastic window cleaner needs to be used on it instead. You will simply need to spray this plastic cleaner on the window and then use a soft cloth to gently clean and dry the window.
